Bedell Cristin embraces a home-grown future through its Class of 2022 trainees

13 September 2022

Global offshore law firm Bedell Cristin is proud to reveal the names of the three successful applicants who have joined its training programme in 2022. Reinforcing the firm’s commitment to identifying and nurturing home-grown talent, two of the successful candidates were appointed to the programme from other roles within the firm.

After a careful selection process, Catarina Basilio, David Lobato Taylor and Steven Zandvliet began their training this month.

The two-year programme includes placements in each of the firm’s core business lines, and typically culminates in qualification as a UK Solicitor. Trainees will also spend time immersed in Bedell Cristin’s support areas, providing them with a rounded and in-depth understanding of the firm.

A key aim of the training programme is to develop a robust talent pipeline to help guide the firm into the future and support effective succession planning.

Global Managing Partner, Tim Pearce commented:

“Our trainees are a key part of our long-term growth strategy and the selection process places as much emphasis on values, passion and emotional intelligence as on academic background, performance and legal experience. My sincere congratulations go to Cat, David, and Steven, who all demonstrated the attributes we look for in lawyers.

This programme will allow our trainees to gain further experience and progress quickly. We look forward to sharing expertise with them as they continue in their professional journey.”

Catarina Basilio gained a Law Degree (LLB Hons) from the University of London before achieving a Distinction in her postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice. Joining Bedell Cristin as a property paralegal in 2018, she has particular expertise in dealing with new build properties and acting for large developers and purchasers on-island.

David Lobato Taylor studied International Business at Nottingham Trent University before pursuing his GDL with Nottingham Law School and his LMM Legal Practice through BPP Law School. He previously held a role as a paralegal at Ogier before earning a place on Bedell Cristin’s trainee programme.

Steven Zandvliet joined Bedell Cristin in October 2020 as a paralegal before being promoted to legal assistant in September 2021. A Nottingham Trent University law student, he also completed a master's degree in Legal Practice in 2018.
