Nancy Chien and Edward Drummond have taken on the Global Managing Partner role at international law firm Bedell Cristin.
The pair took on the joint management role from 1 January, after Tim Pearce decided to return to full-time private practice with Bedell Cristin having completed two terms as Global Managing Partner.
Nancy and Edward – both ranked in the highest possible tiers by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 for the quality of their work – will continue to build their practices while sharing the leadership role, supported by a Strategy Group of partners representing different jurisdictions and practice groups, and by the firm's Senior Management Team.
In a message to Bedell Cristin staff this morning, Nancy and Ed emphasised that the role was a joint one, not a split one, and that they planned to share the full remit between them.
Nancy said: "We are both excited about taking on this role – we have a fantastic group of professionals at Bedell Cristin and the firm is perfectly placed for the coming years. Taking on this leadership role jointly enables us to add our combined insight and experience to the opportunities facing the business, while also continuing to provide the high levels of service that clients have come to expect from Bedell Cristin."
Edward added: "We're grateful to the partners for the confidence that they've shown in us, and also to Tim for his leadership over the past six years. We've got a great partnership, a talented associate bench and a strong team of business support professionals, and we're excited about what the future holds."
Nancy leads Bedell Cristin's top-tier International Private Client practice – she has over 23 years' legal experience and is qualified in four jurisdictions. She helps UHNW families with their international structuring with a particular focus on the Asian and Middle Eastern markets, and is the only Jersey Advocate who speaks Mandarin. Nancy is individually ranked in the very highest tier by both Legal 500 and Chambers High Net Worth for the quality of her advice.
Edward joined Bedell's top-tier Jersey Litigation team in 2008. Having obtained an MA in Jurisprudence at Oxford University he worked for Norton Rose in London for almost seven years and then with another offshore law firm in the BVI and the Cayman Islands. Edward is a Jersey litigator, specialising in trusts disputes, commercial litigation, insolvency and contentious regulatory matters. Like Nancy, he is individually ranked in the very highest tier by both Legal 500 and Chambers UK.
